In my recent interactions with candidates seeking new job opportunities, I’ve encountered numerous instances where they were asked uncomfortable interview questions. Questions about personal matters like family planning or the occupation of their partner can leave candidates feeling uneasy. It’s surprising how many HR Managers still pose these types of interview questions.
To help you navigate this, I’ve compiled a list of interview questions that you are not required to answer. According to German law, you’re even permitted to lie in your response (yes, you read that correctly – lie).
Important: If the HR Manager persists with such questions, consider whether you want to work for a company where your private life is prioritized over your professional skills.
Remember, most candidates feel pressured to answer, but it’s important to know that you have the right not to. Responding in one of the ways I’ve mentioned should not diminish your qualifications for the position. All in all, the whole interview process should give you a positive and inviting feeling, if this is notthe casel, don’t feel bad to stop the process. You know yourself the best.
